08: What the Heck’s a Keyword Cluster? (And How to Create Them)

Steal my proven keyword clustering process.

A huge thank you to our sponsors who keep this newsletter free:

KeywordInsights.ai helps you create keyword clusters with ease. Bring in your own list of keywords or use their tool to research keywords then easily cluster them. Start targeting multiple keywords with each article instead of just one. Watch their Keyword Cluster Video Tutorial.

Hello, hello! Happy Sunday 🙂

A big mistake you may be making…

NOT using “keyword clusters” & only targeting 1 keyword/page.

Anyone guilty of this?

I was for years & I can’t believe I let it go on for SO long.

Luckily, you can change your ways…today!

What the Heck Are Keyword Clusters?

Keyword Clusters are groups of keywords that have similar intent that your ideal customer is searching online for.

I’ll give some examples in a second, but here’s how it plays out for your content with and without keyword clusters…

Without keyword clusters:

As you can see, without keyword clustering, your blog or page is only trying to rank for 1 main keyword.

It’s a good place to start, but it limits the amount of traffic you can get.

Note: Sometimes Google will rank you for multiple keywords that are similar if your article is good enough, but you leave it up to chance when only targeting 1 keyword per article.

Now imagine it a bit differently…

With keyword clusters:

With keyword clusters, your one blog or page can rank for 3, 5, 10+ keywords.

The traffic potential increases substantially.

And Google knows that your article applies to ALL of these different keywords.

The beauty? It only takes a little bit of extra work.

Let’s look at some examples:

Keyword Cluster Examples

With the main keyword being “water bottle” & intent being to research a water bottle, we find other similar intent keywords.

Boom! Now we have 3+ keywords to target instead of 1.

With the main keyword of “learn seo marketing” and the intent to find great SEO content, we quickly come up with a list of similar keywords to target.

See how we were able to build keyword clusters off the main keyword and the intent for the keyword?

Pretty cool, right?

That’s what Keyword Clusters are all about!

Building a group of similar keywords w/ the same intent off your main keyword.

In Summary

Keyword clusters are drastically overlooked.

But it’s a HUGE miss for your website traffic.

Keyword clusters can help you rank for 5-10x more keywords per page/blog.

Which can result in 5-10x more traffic/mo as well.

For only a little bit more work upfront, you get BIG results.

Action Steps

1. Use Keyword Cluster Tools: Keyword Clusterizer, KeywordInsights.ai, Ahrefs, and SEMrush. There’s tons of them.

2. Add to Your Keyword Research Process: Add 1 extra step to build a keyword cluster after finding the main keyword for each blog/page.

3. Upgrade Old Blog Content: Find blogs/pages that are already ranking for their main keyword. Create a keyword cluster & update the content to target all of the keyword cluster too.

Hope this helps!

Happy Sunday my Savvy friends 🙂
