10: How Outsource School Generates 100+ Leads/Mo w/ SEO

Did you know I run a company called Outsource School?

We teach 100s of business owners how to get more time back and get more done by hiring virtual assistants.

For almost 4 years now, we’ve been creating SEO content around “virtual assistants” and “outsourcing”.

It’s taken time, but you can see how it’s impacting our Google rankings.

In this issue, I’ll explain exactly how we’ve grown Outsource School’s SEO to a point where we’re bringing in 100+ leads every month from search traffic.

Here we go!

Step 1: Targeting Long Tail Keywords

First step was figuring out an SEO strategy:

  • What keywords do we target?

  • Who’s our competition?

  • How many articles should we publish each month?

We ran an in-depth audit of the “virtual assistant” and “outsourcing” space and found 100+ keywords we knew it would be worth ranking for.

That was just the start, but it put us in a good place to get our SEO started.

Step 2: Leveling Up What’s Already Winning

Next, we researched the competition on those keywords and figured out who was already winning.

Could we win as well? 

As with any SEO campaign, we wanted to make sure that not only did we have the right keywords, but we also had a good plan to create content that could be better than the competition.

In this phase, we researched the keywords on Google, opened all of the winners in new tabs, saw what was winning, drew conclusions, and created a plan to attack each keyword.

  • Keyword #1 —> plan of attack

  • Keyword #2 —> plan of attack

  • Keyword #3 —> plan of attack

  • So on and so on.

We created outlines for each article and SEO Guidelines to follow for each blog article.

And we were off!

Step 3: Publishing 10+ Blogs Per Month

Over the next 2 years, we published 10+ blog articles per month publishing 100s of blogs focused on keywords on “virtual assistants” and “outsourcing”.

How did we do it?

  • We vetted and hired top SEO Writers.

  • We set up an internal Content Calendar.

  • We created a pipeline to go from SEO keyword to fully written and published SEO article.

  • We created SEO Checklists to make sure all content we put out was TOP notch.

Step 4: Consistently Building Relevant Backlinks

On top of high quality content, we also built meaningful relationships in the outsourcing and entrepreneurship industries.

Those relationships led to partnerships which led to backlinks and mentions across social media, blogs, websites, newsletters, and more.

It wasn’t as big a focus as content creation, but we built relevant and quality backlinks from others in the industry consistently.

Simple as that.

Step 5: Offering Bad A** Lead Magnets

Fifth, we turned our best performing content into lead magnets that we could offer on the website.

As people reached the site from search, we offered them relevant lead magnets and free resources.

This led to more people on the site converting into subscribers to our weekly email newsletter.

Every quarter or so, we released a new resource that we could offer to visitors and our partners.

You’d be amazed by how far free content that is truly useful can go.

Our lead magnets at Outsource School have been downloaded 1,000s of times.

Step 6: Making the Experience Top Notch

Finally, we didn’t cut any corners with the website’s UX.

  • Optimize for mobile — Check!

  • Add relevant lead magnet offers — Check!

  • Make all content super readable & skimmable — Check!

  • Keep site performance FAST — Check!

  • Offer free outsourcing consult — Check!

  • Make it easy to navigate — Check!

This ensured that visitors enjoyed the content and didn’t have to worry about a poor performing website.

This led them to other pages on the website and turned a % of them into subscribers to our weekly outsourcing content.

In Summary

Outsource School has been a true case study of how a smart SEO strategy can help you grow a business from zero to 6 figures per year.

We continue to publish new content every week on the Outsource School Blog.

And it drives the company 1,000s of visitors every single month.

Still lots to learn and implement, but we’re on a good track!

Action Steps

#1: Don’t Start SEO Without a Strategy: Your strategy is your lifeblood. Let it guide all of your actions and come back to it often.

#2: If you’re already doing SEO, Step Back & Assess Your Strategy: Just because you’ve started SEO doesn’t mean it can’t be optimized. Schedule a day to analyze your current SEO and find ways to improve your strategy.

#3: Save & Read this Case Study 2-3x: When we read something 2-3x, we learn a LOT more than if we read it just 1x.
