Happy Sunday Savvy nation!

Do you know what search intent is for SEO?

Unfortunately, most don’t so I want to set the record straight.

This issue explains the 3 levels of search intent and how to prioritize them.

If you're in SEO, you need to understand these to optimize your results.

Let's first define low, medium, and high search intent keywords w/ examples.

Type #1: Low Intent

  • Low purchase intent.

  • The user is in the learning phase.

  • They’re figuring out step 1 to something new.

  • Low conversion potential.

Low Intent Examples:

→ "How to start SEO"

→ "What are backlinks?"

→ "What is a site audit?"

→ "Biggest SEO mistakes"

The User is looking to learn.

Type #2: Medium Intent

  • Medium purchase intent.

  • The user is in the research phase.

  • Needs more information before making a decision.

  • Mid conversion potential.

Medium Intent Examples:

→ "Best SEO courses"

→ "Top SEO experts"

→ "Cost of SEO"

→ "SEO execution guide"

Getting closer to purchasing, but not quite there yet. Still researching.

Type #3: High Intent

  • High purchase intent.

  • The user is in the buying phase.

  • They’re looking for a solution to buy...now.

  • High conversion potential.

High Intent Examples:

→ "Buy SEO course"

→ "Hire SEO expert"

→ "SEO SAAS service"

→ "Best eCommerce SEO agency"

Ready to purchase & seeking best option.

My Intent Prioritization Strategy

So, how do you prioritize them w/ your keyword research & content creation?

Step 1: Target high intent keywords

These bring leads, revenue, & profit. You should put them first.

Why? So you get sales to invest in more SEO. So your SEO turns profitable.

Step 2: Go after medium intent

Become an option as users research topics.

Why? With profits, reinvest to be everywhere your customers are researching.

Step 3: Own low intent keywords

Build topical authority in your industry.

Why? To reach potential customers before they even know they need you.

In Summary

When you identify search intent correctly and tackle it with your keyword research, it can bring you:

→ profits from SEO, word of mouth, niche expertise, & awareness.

Remember:

→ High intent: Users ready to purchase.

→ Medium intent: Users in the research phase.

→ Low intent: Users looking to learn.

Action Steps

#1: Steal my search intent strategy and turn it into your own SOP for search intent.

#2: Practice identifying search intent by doing keyword research for your own website or a client’s website.

You’ll be happy once you can do it with your eyes closed.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Connor
