Hey, how’s life? Hopefully stellar!

Can you confidently say you know how your SEO is doing?

I wasn’t always able to (just being honest).

That’s why today I want dive into a simple way to get a measurement on your SEO.

Understanding what's working and what's not in your SEO efforts is crucial for growth.

If you don’t know what’s happening, you can’t make smart decisions.

And without smart decisions, growth will NOT come.

So, here's how to measure your SEO with precision:

1/ Organic Traffic Analysis

  • Examine the trends and volumes of your site's organic traffic.

  • Go deeper than the surface level and really dig.

2/ Keyword Rankings

  • Track the positions of your critical keywords over time.

  • Use a tool like Ahrefs (paid or free).

  • If paid, set up a keyword list and it will auto track.

  • If free, make a spreadsheet with your top keywords and use Ahrefs free keyword ranking tool to record the ranking each month.

  • Analyze the quality and quantity of your site's backlinks.

  • Again, use a tool like Semrush or Ahrefs.

  • These will show you all of your backlinks, their Domain Ratings, how much traffic they drive, etc.

4/ Page Load Time

  • Check how quickly your pages load and identify slowdowns.

  • Use a free tool like Google’s Website Speed checker or a tool like GTMetrix.

  • Make changes to your website set up so that load time is optimized.

5/ Bounce Rate & User Engagement

  • Assess visitor interactions and engagement levels.

  • It could be poor design, not enough internal linking, more CTAs, etc.

  • Figure out what’s not working and improve.

6/ Conversion Rate from Organic Traffic

  • Measure how effectively your organic traffic converts into goals.

  • You can do this with Google Tag Manager and GA4.

  • There’s plenty of guides and videos online so you can set it up yourself.

7/ Content Performance

  • Review which pieces of content perform best in attracting and engaging visitors.

  • Again, you can do this in a tool like Google Search Console or Ahrefs.

  • Know your top performing pages and keep making improvements to others so your rankings increase.

8/ Mobile Usability

  • Ensure your site is optimized for mobile users.

  • We’re living in a mobile dominated world.

  • No way around it. Built with mobile in mind.

And here’s a cheat sheet wrapping it all together!
