How I Ranked EcomBalance on ChatGPT, Got 25+ Leads and $10K in Revenue

Let me pull back the curtain on the GEO strategy that delivered real leads, AI visibility, and revenue for EcomBalance, a company in my portfolio.

What We Achieved

Let’s cut to the good part. Here’s what we achieved:

  • 25+ new qualified leads from ChatGPT citations

  • $10,000+ in direct revenue ($1K in MRR)

  • Top 3 ChatGPT ranks for ecommerce bookkeeping prompts

Here’s what we had to push past:

  • Fiercely competitive market: The bookkeeping industry is already dominated by large-scale SaaS players, such as Pilot and Xendoo.

  • Skyrocketing Cost Per Click (CPC): That’s $20 for bookkeeping keywords.

  • Shifting buyer behavior: Customers are asking ChatGPT more, instead of relying solely on traditional search.

How Did We Do It?

We implemented a five-step GEO strategy that put EcomBalance in AI answers.

Step 1: Prompt Research

Month 1. We focused on GEO keyword research and strategy.

We identified real bookkeeping queries buyers were asking on ChatGPT. These were our GEO keywords, which we mapped to our service offering.

Step 2: GEO Content Creation

In Month 2, we shifted to cornerstone content building. We created content that AI favored and could parse easily.

That meant our service pages and blogs were:

  • Structured and well-organized.

  • With clear headings and definitions.

  • Built around experience-backed, expert content.

Step 3: Source Authority

By Month 3, we were earning citations from ecommerce and finance sites that AI models already trusted.

Sites that have strong reputations (high authority, lots of backlinks, consistent quality content) are the ones AI is most likely to cite.

When your brand gets mentioned, linked to, or featured on these sites, two things happen:

  • AI sees you in a trusted ecosystem.

  • Your brand authority grows in real life.

Step 4: Repurposing and Distribution

Still in Month 3 of execution, we knew publishing alone wasn’t enough.

We distributed our content across LinkedIn, email, and partners to increase visibility. This translated to more brand mentions, more backlinks, more crawlable content, and more trust signals.

Step 5: Tracking

We spent months 4 to 6 on optimization, freshness updates, and scaling.

Tools like Semrush and Writesonic helped us monitor LLM visibility. But we also did manual prompt testing and asked questions like:

  • What structure did the cited pages use?

  • What angles do they emphasize?

  • Are they more specific?

Essentially, we reverse-engineered what works and doubled down on it.

SEO + GEO Work in Tandem

Our results prove:

  • GEO is wide open right now…and the first movers win. Few brands are actively optimizing for AI-driven prompts, which means early adopters can dominate AI visibility before the space gets crowded.

  • EEAT applies as much to AI rankings as Google. Experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness aren’t just Google metrics. They’re what AI models use to decide which sources to cite.

  • Authority still drives trust. AI doesn’t rank content in a vacuum. It looks at signals from reputable sites, backlinks, and consistent brand mentions.

  • GEO leads convert better. ChatGPT-driven buyers are generally more ready to act.
