What’s up, Savvy friends!

Starting SEO for a new site?

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by hundreds of keyword options. I know–

I’m currently building SEO for my CFO business, CFO Expertise, and the possibilities are endless!

So if you’re deep in SEO building too, and are wondering how I get better, quicker results, here’s my step-by-step process:

Step 1/ Start with Keyword Research

I use a combination of Ahrefs, Semrush, and ChatGPT to look for:

  • Service keywords: What users type when they’re ready to hire

  • Pain points: The problems my potential clients are actively trying to solve

  • Industry terms: Language my target audience uses to find solutions I offer

Step 2/ Assign Search Intent to Each Keyword

Next, I identify why users are searching the terms I’ve just pooled.

These are the search intent labels I use:

  • High intent: People are ready to buy

  • Medium intent: People are comparing options or learning about solutions

  • Low intent: Educational, top-of-the-funnel terms

Step 3/ Prioritize High Intent

High-intent keywords are search terms that indicate a user is ready to convert. I go after these first with:

  • Service pages

  • Pricing pages

  • Service-focused blogs

Step 4/ Cluster Keywords

Google and AI want to see topical authority.

That’s why I group related keywords around a hub topic to show Google and LLMs what my site is focused on.

Step 5/ Filter by Competition

I start with lower-competition terms that I can win now, then go after higher, more competitive keywords later.

It’s important to be realistic based on your site’s DR.

Drive Conversions with Simple, Repeatable SEO Systems

Your SEO doesn’t have to be complicated for it to work:

  • Start with a smart yet simple system. Prioritize traffic that converts, and don’t skip intent.

  • Clustering keywords is a major leverage. When Google and LLMs understand your site, ranking, authority, and even content creation get easier.

  • Optimize for speed of results. The faster you win those early keywords, the faster you build authority.

Don’t try to rank for everything at once.

These easy steps are all you need to build SEO momentum that actually brings in clients.

Now, get ready for those calls!
